But how did we arrive at the delicious combinations Rose & Amber, Fig & Cedar and Leather & Birch? For that, we need to look at the 'building blocks' of a perfume: the so-called top, heart and base notes.

Broad spectrum of fragrances

In the realm of perfumery, fragrances are typically composed of various notes that emerge distinctly at different intervals following the application.

These notes are categorized into three types: top notes, heart notes (also known as middle notes), and base notes. This trio of elements showcases the intricate nature of perfumes and illustrates how a scent unfolds and changes with time. Together, they create the unique fragrance experience of a specific perfume.

Top notes

Initially, the fragrance emits top notes, which are perceptible at first but fade within about thirty minutes. Common top notes include citrus, spice, and aromatic accents. As these notes recede, the heart notes start to flourish.

Heart notes

Once the top notes have mostly vanished, the heart notes start to emerge. These notes constitute the essence or 'heart' of the fragrance composition. Typically warmer and more floral than the top notes, heart notes serve to blend and unify the various fragrance components.

Base notes

The base notes represent the deepest, most enduring scents of a perfume, enhancing and anchoring the heart notes. They dissipate slowly, leaving a lasting fragrance memory. Base notes are usually
richer and more earthy, lending the perfume its full, distinctive character.
